Goody, Goody Gum Drops and a 1950s Wrap Dress

Change is definitely in the air here in Boston: spring is finally beginning to bloom and my fiancé and I have started new careers this week. To me, there is nothing better than new beginnings- you can completely reinvent yourself, and for me that means new additions to my wardrobe. So what better way to take off on a new adventure than with a piece from Karina Dresses new Playtime Collection.

By this point, I’m sure you all know that I love Karina Dresses! They founded on the idea of creating high-quality dresses that allow women of all sizes to feel beautiful in their own skin. On top of that, they’re made right here in the U.S. They provide a wide-array of styles and patterns that dazzle the senses and ensnare the mind’s creativity for curating an outfit. Dress them up or down, but you can never go wrong with one of their gowns.

Although I have a rather dynamic assortment of garments from Karina Dresses, I’ve never given the Ruby Dress a chance. This is mostly because I’ve fallen in love with the different sleeve designs on the majority of their gowns, but I’m no longer loyal to sleeved frocks after trying this beauty on.

Just like the Margaret Dress (you can read my review of this gorgeous piece here), the Ruby is the definition of the timeless wrap dress from the 1950s. If you’re familiar with 50s fashion, or have been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know that dresses during that time were primarily classified as “New Look.” These gowns were typically quite fancy, but the introduction of the wrap dress allowed for a more relaxed, casual look- and that’s exactly what you get with the Ruby.

I have to admit that the first thing that caught my eye was the pattern of this dress. Who could possibly ignore a dress made from a print named “Gum Drops?” In addition to its adorable name, the Gum Drop pattern (and color scheme) catches the eye immediately. I can’t help but think of the Art Deco patterns of the 1920s while looking at this beauty, and that’s what sold me. This gown is a breathtaking combination of 1920s and 1950s fashion, which is this gals dream come true.

The Ruby in Gum Drops retails for $108 USD, which is the standard for Karina Dresses gowns. I can’t even count the ways to express the value of these dresses. They never wrinkle, they are machine washable, the fabric breathes but is sturdy and high quality- I could go on and on!

In terms of shipping, Karina Dresses ships for free within the U.S. for orders over $150, but for those under that price point it’s only $5. Shipping internationally will range from $20-25 depending on the location.
