A Wild Child in a 1940s Silhouette

Everyone has a wild side no matter how docile we think we are, and I say this with experience because, for the most part, I’m a pretty introverted person. I wasn’t always this way, in fact I used to be quite the extrovert and every once in a while I like to embrace that side of me. How do I do this? Bold prints- especially those of exotic animals and this Raquel Dress from Wax Poetic Clothing fits the bill!

Wax Poetic Clothing was founded by Johanna and Bryn Stull in 2014 based on the idea of creating beautiful garments right here in the U.S. While designing their pieces, Johanna pulls inspiration from vintage fashion, but adds a more modern twist- particularly when it comes to comfortability. Each dress is more beautiful than the next, with bold florals and stunning prints being their focus. That being said, if you see something you like then you’d better snag it as each production run is limited!

The Raquel screams 1940s with it’s slit neckline and lack of waistband- two quintessential traits of that time. These vintage features create an incredibly sexy and sophisticated look by accentuating the bust and allowing the fabric to drape perfectly along the waist and hips.

The print on this dress is absolutely eye catching, just like a real leopard, and the fabric is buttery soft. I’ve honestly never felt such a soft knit fabric, which only adds to the list of reasons why I love this dress. The material is also extremely stretchy and who doesn’t love a little wiggle room?

Like all of Wax Poetic Clothing’s dresses, the Raquel is available in sizes XS-3X, making it size inclusive as most vintage reproduction/pinup brands are (just one of the many reasons why I love the pinup community). For reference, I’m wearing my usual size M, however the dress has quite a bit of stretch and I could have gone with a S.

The Raquel retails for $84 and, as mentioned earlier, if you love it as much as I do I highly recommend you grab it before it disappears. In fact, stock is already running low! Shipping within the U.S. is $10 and international shipping is available for $14.
